Blues quote:

"So here I am - a 75-year-old man sitting on a bar stool in a blues club, trying to figure out exactly how I got here. Any way you look at it, it's a helluva story." -- Buddy Guy, from his autobiography,  "When I Left Home."

There's a whole lot of special shows coming your way this weekend, all with a hint or more of blues and soulful music.

Tomorrow night (10.28) finds a Bluzer pick, Pokey LaFarge, at the Club Cafe on the South Side. I've not seen him and his South City Three, but based on some YouTube viewing, he looks like a lot of fun with old-timey music filtered through his young soul.

Also tomorrow night, the very soulful Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings at the Carnegie Music Hall in Homestead.

Then on Saturday night, the hypnotic bluesy rhythms of the North Mississippi Allstars come to Mr. Small's in Millvale.

Or you could head for Diesel on the South Side Saturday night and hear the amazing guitar work of Sonny Landreth.

Or you could wander out to Moondog's in Blawnox, also Saturday night, and hear blues-country-rocker Anthony Gomes.

Depending on your musical taste, you should have a pretty good weekend.

And I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the Bossman, Porky Chedwick's short stint at WEDO-AM has come to an end for lack of sponsors.

And now, the video samples:

Pokey LaFarge

Sharon Jones

North Mississippi Allstars

Sonny Landreth

Anthony Gomes

Pokey plays Pittsburgh TONIGHT!!

POKEY LAFARGE AND THE SOUTH CITY THREE - RIGHT KEY, WRONG KEYHOLE

I first met Pokey Lafarge the last time they played Pittsburgh earlier this year at the Thunderbird Cafe. Not only was I impressed by the sound of the band but also by the sincerity and depth of knowledge about old Blues and Jazz music that this young fellow possesses. And what a snappy dresser!! I expect another fine performance but I've also learned to keep my expectations low. Even if they just show up...I'll be happy!!
