Tony Mauro writes into today's Legal Intelligencer about conservative movement voices focusing on the Constitutional amendment for direct election of U.S. senators as a fork in the road for states' rights.

Mauro's wide-ranging review of debate swirling around the 17th Amendment notes the topic has a history:

"All this attention to the 17th Amendment is amusing and bewildering to George Mason University School of Law professor Todd Zywicki, who has been writing about the 17th Amendment and urging its repeal for upwards of 20 years."
