Of the six ''experts'' at SI.com, only one picked the New York Giants to defeat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl tonight. I find that shocking. I do not downgrade the Bill Belichick/Tom Brady mystique. They are both locks for the Hall of Fame. It's possible Brady has been surpassed as the best quarterback, but Belichick has not been as the best coach.

But the Giants are a far better-balanced team. They might not have the passing game of New England, but they have a good one and a far better defense.

Weigh in with your predictions and, if you like, your MVP.

Enjoy the game.

Why the Giants will win: The only thing I know is it'll be a two-minute-warning kind of game. One team's going to have a chance to win this one late. It comes down to the Giants' terrific pass rush, and whether Matt Light can hold up for 60 snaps against the dangerous Osi Umenyiora. I say Umenyiora makes a few decisive plays.
The Super Bowl MVP will be... Osi Umenyiora

Why the Patriots will win: Quarterbacks and head coaches usually do more to determine the outcome of Super Bowls than anyone else, and my gut tells me Tom Brady's and Bill Belichick's motivation level is sky high this week. Something to do with that little upset in the desert at the hands of these same Giants four years ago. Close, back-and-forth game will be decided by a late Patriots field goal, the way New England always wins its Super Bowls.

The Super Bowl MVP will be... Tom Brady

Bob, I agree it's mystifying that their picks overwhelmingly favor New England when in reality each team has an excellent chance to win.

But I do agree with Byrne that the Giants are being worshiped as the second coming of the '85 Bears. I'm not discounting the fabulous run New York has had the second part of the season, and their journey to Indianapolis reminds me of the Cowher-led Steelers squad that won for the thumb. However, the Giants needed two special teams miscues by the 49ers to make the Super Bowl, and the Pats' offense is better.

Also, while the G-men are lauded for their late-season improvement, the progress the Pats' defense made in the latter half of the season mostly is being ignored. But the Pats needed a missed field goal to make the big game.

All in all, it should be a great game with NE winning 31-27.

Only 3 things can keep the Giants from winning:

--Eli gets hurt in the first half

--Coughlin goes ultra conservative on offense

--the ref's tilt the game to the patriots.

The Patriots are the worst AFC team in the Super Bowl since either the Raiders in 2003 or Parcell's Pat's back in the '90's.

--Where's Bob's pick?

--The Curtis Martin quotes in the PG today were outstanding. Any one looking for a role model? His mother would be a great one.

--Loved the Pirates story in today's PG, too. Is there a beat writer yet or will it still be a coverage by committee, which worked so well last year.

Bring on the pre-game, I've a hankerin' for some hoopla!

This Super Bowl will further prove that momentum in the final third of the season and the healthiness of a team are more important to winning a Super Bowl than playoff seed.

This is why God had Tebow do his bidding and eliminate the Steelers, we had no chance of winning number 7.

I think the law firm of Ben Jarvis Green Ellis will merit MVP votes with a 100+ yrd game. Eli throws 2 key picks. Cruz isn't a big factor because the Pats don't miss tackles that turn 7 yards into 70.

I like Byrnes' reasoning. Plus, not a lot has been said or written about it but Tom Brady's play in the post season has been sub par for the most part the past several years. He was especially bad against Baltimore in this year's AFCCG. He played well against the Broncos but what were the Broncos doing in their secondary? The Broncos put no rush on Brady and seemed to be playing loose zone defense in the secondary...a lethal cocktail against Brady and the Pats passing game. Plus Gronkowski will be a non factor...even if he plays....so:

First, I will pick with my heart.

Giants 38-28 or 31-27. I have 8 and 8, and 1 and 7 squares in the block poll at work, and would much rather the Giants (and their similar to the Rooney's family owned NFL team roots) have 4 Lombardi's than Bellichek's Patriots.

Head pick. Patriots 31-20. Brady is very good at football.

I agree with Curmudgeon, Meathead, and heartbeatsings - this game won't be very close. The Giants dominated a much better team at Green Bay already, and soundly thrashed an Atlanta Falcons team that looked every bit the equal of the Pats on both sides of the ball. The only team that kept it close was the 49ers, and the Pats defense is nowhere near as sophisticated and hard hitting as San Francisco's.

Giants 41, Pats 10

I predict a 34-24 victory for the Giants. I do not see this game being close. Forget the overall records. This Giants team, like the Packers last year, is the hottest team in pro football.

Most people believe Brady had a bad game against the Ravens. I believe the Ravens front four had a good game. Brady is not mobile. He can only work his magic if he has time in the pocket. The Patriots scored more points than the Ravens not because they were the better team, the Ravens gave away the game with a dropped touchdown pass and a missed chip shot field goal.

At this point in their careers, Eli manning is a better quarterback than Brady. Eli is a mobile quarterback. If his offensive line is having a bad day, he can move and make plays outside of the pocket. That is how he made the throw to Tyree in the previous Super Bowl.

Also, the Pats have the 31st ranked defense for a reason. The Giants will possess the ball and keep Brady on the bench. They will follow the same game plan the Steelers did.

The Pats do not have a deep threat. The Giants will take advantage of a wide receiver playing defensive back. In view of the above, the Giants can only lose if they give the game away as the Ravens did. Without careless Giants interceptions and fumbles, the Pats cannot beat the Giants.

Game Pick

Giants 38
Scumbags who should've been banned from the NFL 17

Rationale

Giants dominated a similar pass happy with lousy defense Green Bay squad three weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Patriots got a second round bye with Denver.

Patriots have beaten one, repeat, one team with a winning record this year.

Giants are peaking at the right time. Sure, they squeaked by the 49ers -- but the Patriots squeaked by the Ravens -- and San Francisco is a far superior team.

The Patriots, especially Tom Brady, were sloppy against the Ravens -- yet people expect Brady to step up and have a miracle game -- even though he's been downright awful in most of his recent post-season performances. Nice logic there.

I hate the Patriots guts and everything associated with them.

Bottom Line

Today the Patriots have met their match -- and no longer have the ability to cheat their way to a narrow win.

Side Note

Can't wait to see Giselle Bundchen try to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on Robert Kraft when he starts choking on his spam and spray can cheese Triscuits.

A lot of folks appear to be picking who they "want" to win. These are the people who make bookies rich men. I couldn't care less who wins...the Steelers aren't in this game.

Perloff said it best...the Patriots don't have near as much pressure on them as was the case the last time these two teams met in the SB.

I refuse to make a prediction and here is why...

Like the significant majority of the Steeler Nation, the idea of Brady and Belicheat winning another SB sickens me. I'm no Giant's fan but I'll be 1000% behind them tonight.

HOWEVER...

I have a very hard time seeing New England losing. In fact, expect them to win by at least a TD. This is a team that was 13-3 during the season; 27-5 the last two years. The Giants were a 9-7 team that was lucky to make the playoffs and then got hot.

I realize the Giants are a lot healthier than they were earlier in the season and that makes a huge difference in today's NFL. Still, I'm amazed at how many are sure they are going to win. I wonder if people's views are being colored by the upset four years ago.

I expect New England to be fired up and focused regardless...but given a chance to avenge one of the biggest upsets in the history of sports, they go to another level. At least that's what I fear.

I won't predict a victory for a team I hate and fervantly hope will lose...but admittedly I think they are the better team.
